Pool Leak Detection in Ascension Parish
Purpose-Built Pool Leak Detection for Prairieville, Gonzales, Geismar & St. Amant
American Leak Detection provides pool, spa, and fountain leak detection services to homeowners and property managers throughout Ascension Parish. As The Original Leak Specialist™, we bring more than 50 years of national detection innovation and a local presence dating to 1990, guided by one principle: Leak Detection Without Destruction™.
General plumbers diagnose general plumbing problems. Pool leak detection in Ascension Parish demands purpose-built methods: pressure testing on plumbing lines, electronic listening equipment, dye testing, and the proprietary LeakVUE Services technology our leak specialists use to monitor water levels and confirm hidden losses. That’s a different toolkit, built for a different problem.

What an Undetected Pool Leak Costs You
Ascension Parish is one of Louisiana’s fastest-growing parishes, with an expanding base of newer subdivision homes featuring in-ground pools. Those pools operate under real stress: clay-heavy soils that shift with seasonal rain cycles, groundwater fluctuations, and a warm climate that keeps pools running across more months of the year than nearly anywhere else in the country.
An undetected leak doesn’t pause between billing cycles. It can saturate surrounding soil, erode deck supports, strain underground plumbing connections, and add to your water bill every week it goes unaddressed. The sooner the source is confirmed, the less damage may accumulate.
Signs Your Ascension Parish Pool May Have a Leak
Most pool owners notice something is off before they call. These are the clearest indicators that a professional pool leak inspection is warranted:
- Water loss beyond evaporation: A pool should lose no more than a quarter inch of water per day to evaporation. Consistent loss beyond that threshold is a red flag.
- Adding water more than once a week: If you’re topping off frequently, the pool is losing more than normal.
- Equipment losing prime or air in the pump: These can point to a suction-side failure that may be underground.
- Soft, spongy, or wet ground near the pool or equipment pad: Water may be going somewhere it shouldn’t.
- Cracks on the shell, coping, or surrounding deck: Visible structural changes can indicate active or developing failures.
- Autofill cycling more frequently than normal: An autofill that runs constantly may be masking loss, not solving it.
Before calling, the bucket test gives you a reliable baseline. Fill a bucket with pool water, set it on a pool step, and mark both the inside and outside water levels. After 24 hours, if the pool has dropped more than the bucket, a leak is likely present.
How We Locate Pool Leaks Without Digging
Every pool leak inspection starts with a structured process, not guesswork. Our leak specialists use pressure testing to isolate failures in pool plumbing lines without opening the deck or yard. Electronic listening equipment picks up leak activity within the pool system. Where the shell or fittings are involved, dye testing confirms the exact location of water loss.
LeakVUE Services technology gives our leak specialists accurate water-level monitoring to document loss precisely before any ground is opened. Most pool leak inspections run two to four hours, depending on pool size and plumbing complexity. When the inspection is complete, you receive a full inspection report covering what was found, where the leak is located, and recommended next steps. No excavation happens until the source is confirmed.
Pool leaks most commonly occur at fittings and return lines, skimmer connections, the pool shell itself, and underground supply plumbing. Each location requires a different detection method to isolate accurately, which is why the methods we use are built specifically for Pools, Spas & Fountains, not adapted from general plumbing diagnostics.

“I had an awful rotten egg smell as soon as I bought our house. After calling two plumbers (who charged me a fee to tell me nothing was wrong), the Gas Company (no gas leak), and the Public Works Department, I finally called American Leak Detection. They came in, investigated with smoke, and fixed the problem. For the first time in two months, my house doesn't smell like a restaurant toilet. Highly recommend them!”- Sandi T.

“I can't say enough good things about their service! We had a slab leak that flooded the master bedroom and they came as quickly as they could and then rearranged their work schedule so the repair could be made and we could once again have water turned on. The workmen were professional and efficient. I hope I never have to use that kind of service again but if so, they are he best.”- Carolyn R.

“Tree roots had cracked my filter pipes and I was losing water badly. I was referred to American Leak Detection and set up an appointment. Daniel came out and did his best to diagnose the problem. He got very strange results and it was hard to determine the exact pipe(s) that were cracked but since I'd had a similar repair done 6 years ago and we could see evidence of the tree root damage from above, I felt confident we knew were the issue was and I contracted for the work. I was pleasantly surprised to see Daniel return to perform the work. I arranged to be home that day so I could see what he found. I supposed I hovered, taking pictures of the process, asking questions as he went along. He never got annoyed and answered every question with a smile. I don't think i ever saw anyone work harder. It was obvious from that start he had a lot of experience and knew what he was doing. Digging out the area had to be done mostly by hand which he did efficiently without complaints. He found multiple pipes cracked which explained the odd results during diagnosis. The job took longer than expected because it was difficult work and he ran out of daylight but on the job until he it wasn't possible anymore that day. Even though he was fully booked for the following day, his company rearranged his schedule so he could return the following afternoon. I returned home early from work and was able to see him complete the job. He even patched the deck with new concrete like an artisan, taking every care to make it as smooth and neat as possible. After 30 years in this house, we have had many service people come to do work. No one has ever delivered better than Daniel. He was competent, diligent, and pleasant. The cost wasn't cheap but it was fair. I don't mind at all paying for quality service.”- String R.
