Three Types of Plumbing Leaks We Can Find & Repair
Not every leak announces itself with a puddle. Many of the most damaging leaks in Atlanta homes build slowly behind finished surfaces, beneath slabs, or underground, giving little warning until the repair bill is already significant. Knowing what to watch for is the first step toward catching a problem early.
Signs You May Need a Leak Inspection in Atlanta
Common warning signs that it’s time to schedule a professional leak inspection include:
- Unexplained water bill increases. A spike in monthly usage with no change in household habits is one of the most reliable early indicators of a concealed leak somewhere in the system.
- Running water sounds with fixtures off. Hearing water move through pipes when nothing is in use points to a pressurized line losing water somewhere it shouldn’t be.
- Warm or wet spots on floors. These can signal a water line leaking beneath a concrete slab, particularly common in Atlanta homes on slab foundations.
- Damp spots, staining, or bubbling paint on walls or ceilings. Moisture accumulating behind finished surfaces works its way through eventually, and surface discoloration is often the first visible sign.
- Musty or mildew odors without a visible source. Hidden moisture behind walls or under flooring promotes mold growth long before a stain appears.
- Unexplained drops in water pressure. Water escaping a damaged line before it reaches your fixtures will reduce pressure at the tap.
Atlanta-area homes on slab foundations are particularly susceptible to concealed leaks. The region’s red Georgia clay soil swells and shifts with moisture changes, placing stress on buried pipes and holding water against foundations in ways that accelerate pipe wear. A professional leak inspection can locate the source before visible damage appears, allowing for a targeted repair rather than an emergency response.

“Jim came on two different leak situations. The first time was an absolute ludicrous leak that the water company said has used 400,000 gallons of water in 1 month. So they turned our water off. Jim resolved that issue and worked with our insurance company and it was very smooth going. They spotted the leak and it was fixed and then noticed another area that might be a problem, but no water leaking. They warned us of this area. Five months later we noticed a bill that was going up. Sure enough, we called Jim again and out he came and found the leak and it was under a sink and pinpointed that leak and it was resolved immediately. Jim is such a nice person and so easy to talk with and communicate with when a woman is all but looney with NO WATER. And, a second leak. All was a very good experience with such a monumental leak.”- Phyllis M.
