Water Distribution Systems in Austin
Non-Invasive Leak Detection for Commercial & Municipal Infrastructure
Buried pipelines, pressurized mains, and aging distribution networks don’t announce their failures. By the time a leak becomes visible, it has often already compromised structural integrity, inflated water bills, or contaminated the supply. American Leak Detection of Austin locates these leaks before they reach that point, serving commercial properties, government facilities, water purveyors, and municipal utilities across the Austin area and Central Texas region.
Water distribution systems move treated water through networks of pumps, storage tanks, and pipelines to reach every building and tap they serve. Most of that infrastructure runs underground, where cracks, joint failures, and pipe shifts go undetected for months or years. As the Original Leak Detection Specialists™ since 1974, we’ve been finding exactly these kinds of leaks for over 50 years, and our approach protects your system without tearing it apart.

How We Locate Leaks in Water Distribution Systems
We use three detection methods, applied in combination, to build a complete picture of where a distribution system is losing water. All three are non-invasive: leaks are confirmed from above ground before any excavation takes place.
Acoustic Correlation
Sensors placed at two points on a pipeline pick up the sound of escaping water. The system calculates the precise leak location based on the time difference between signals, working accurately across long pipe runs and multiple pipe materials. This method is particularly effective for buried mains where visual inspection isn’t possible.
Pressure Testing
A section of pipe is isolated, and controlled pressure is applied. We then monitor for pressure drops to confirm leak presence and severity. This is especially useful for testing suspected problem areas or verifying the integrity of a newly repaired section.
Flow Monitoring
Flow monitoring tracks water movement through the distribution network in real time. When inflow data doesn’t match consumption records, the discrepancy points directly to non-revenue water loss: the portion of water that enters a system but is lost or unaccounted for before generating revenue. We test both sides of the meter as part of each distribution system assessment.
Why Austin Facilities & Utilities Choose Us
Our Leak Detection Without Destruction™ principle means your property, pavement, and operations stay intact throughout the detection process. We don’t excavate to find a leak. We find the leak first.
Every engagement starts with our Know Before You Go pricing approach: honest, upfront cost information before any work begins. Our technicians are thoroughly trained and background-checked, arrive on time, and complete projects within the projected timeline. Because every distribution system has a different layout, age, and condition, we develop customized solutions for each client rather than applying a fixed checklist.
As an internationally recognized company with more than five decades of experience, we bring the resources and focus that complex distribution systems require. Detection is all we do, and that focus matters when a facility manager or water utility needs accurate findings, not a repair upsell.
Schedule a Water Distribution Systems Assessment
Undetected leaks cost Austin-area commercial and municipal operators in water loss, structural damage, and liability exposure. An assessment from American Leak Detection of Austin can give you confirmed leak locations, documented findings, and a clear path to remediation.
